Breathable lime render
Our builders use lime render on listed buildings and period homes in West Sussex and Brighton.
We apply it wherever damp could be trapped behind cement render, so the building can breathe naturally.
Where cement or other unsuitable modern materials have been put on an old building, we replace them with lime, for a more authentic and sustainable finish.
Behind the lime, breathable insulation improves energy efficiency without trapping moisture in the timber frame, as we fitted at Wapsbourne Manor in East Sussex.
At Kent Cottage, a Grade II listed cottage, repairs from the 1990s had sped up decay. Alongside the timber frame and stone repairs, we applied a new lime finish that lets the walls breathe.
At Common House, a 17th-century Grade II listed property, we replaced unsuitable modern materials with breathable lime, so the building can perform as it was always meant to.
Lime goes into floors too: at Henley Cottage we laid breathable limecrete floors.
